“You don’t really know how to define it at first, and that’s what makes it interesting,” says Gerstner, one of the brand’s founders.
Rather than identifying with a single note or a fragrance category, 16a Orchard presents itself as a mystery.
Earthy materials become airy in Voelkl’s hands. Ginger poses questions, leads you astray. Iris puts you back on track as it reveals its cold yet delicate quality. Quince and lily of the valley amplify the root extracts. Dry cedarwood and cashmere-like tonka bean create a dry, spicy roundness for the more ephemeral notes of bergamot, lemon, cardamom, and jasmine.
