Aedes De Venustas - Iris Nazarena

The extraordinary beauty of the flower, with its brown or purple spots and delicate bluish-purple veins, seduced Karl Bradl, co-founder of the brand.

In 2013, this iris variety became the inspiration for the second perfume by Aedes de Venustas.

To transform its root, or rhizome, into an aromatic material, the flower must grow for three years before being harvested. It is then left to dry for another three years so that it develops its characteristic note, a mix of powder, wood, and violet. It is then ground and distilled, and only then can it be used.

In Iris Nazarena, ambrette spreads the soft light of dawn in the top notes, rose adds a touch of floral sensuality, and the fresh, vivid green of star anise evokes the flower’s stylized stems and leaves. Resinous juniper berries, patchouli, and vetiver allude to its roots, infused with dark earth and rock, while the sacred smoke rising from altars weaves its mineral, leather-scented tendrils throughout its development with cloves, oud, and incense.

Incense is, in fact, the olfactory thread that runs through much of the Aedes de Venustas collection. This ancient ingredient, burned in honor of the gods, is at the very origin of perfumery, as the word "perfume" itself derives from the Latin "per fumum," which translates to "through smoke."
